Brent was born in Harlingen, Texas where at age 8 his mother suggested/insisted that he take piano lessons. After hours of negotiations, he failed to convince her that the electric guitar was a refined instrument. They did reach a compromise and he began his guitar lessons (given by the piano teacher) with an acoustic and later the classical . Brent left graduate school at Baylor University, where he completed his BA, after succombing to the fact that playing music was what he had to do (not to mention a helluva lot more fun). He spent a few years in Dallas and Kansas City, MO. He now resides in Austin, Texas where after a one and a half year hiatus from playing live he is jumping right back in with new songs and renewed vigor.
Brent played in multiple bands ranging in styles from country-rock, alt-rock, glam-rock, Heavy-pop-rock-with-a-punk-country-feel (I think you get the picture) since 1988. As a solo singer-songwriter, Brent has played all over Texas and the U.S. as well as Scotland and the Caribbean. His music has been described as " a musical marriage between Bob Mould, Richard Thompson, and R.E.M." and " a real fresh and entertaining sound for the heartland" by Kansas City, MO.'s weekly The Pitch Weekly. His strong vocals and songwriting match his ever apparent love for performing. Watching Brent play his more up-tempo songs brings to mind a poem by Bukowski about 'playing the piano like a rythym instrument until your fingers bleed', while his slower material is just as intense thanks to the degree of dynamics that he embraces. He has begun work on a solo album that should be out Summer 2005.
