Brent Alan Johnston
After
a summer semester's worth of English grad school classes at Baylor
University where I got my undergraduate degree, I decided to be a
Rockstar. Years and many bands and many stories later I was
living in Austin, Texas and had just finished recording my first
full-length solo Album. Recording the album took all the
money I had so I took what we in the music business term a 'real job'
to pay my bills and make enough money to print and release the new CD.
Well, to make another long story short, I got caught
up in the job which is pretty good, bought a house, met and married a
wonderful girl named Dallas, and never released the album.
I have decided to release that album
along with every other recording I made over the years on this web site
for free. Of course I am going to try and guilt you into
'donating' some money if you enjoy the music so I can make
back some of the recording costs. I am still writing and will
upload some of my new songs as I record them.
What
does the music sound like?
As
much as I hate that question I have tried to boil it down below.
Excuse the 3rd person, this was from a past press release.
Brent
played in multiple bands ranging in styles from country-rock, alt-rock,
glam-rock, Heavy-pop-rock-with-a-punk-country-feel (I think you get the
picture) since 1988. As a solo singer-songwriter, Brent has played all
over Texas and the U.S. as well as Scotland and the Caribbean. His
music has been described as "a musical marriage between Bob Mould,
Richard Thompson, and R.E.M." and " a real fresh and entertaining sound
for the heartland" by Kansas City, MO.'s The Pitch Weekly. His strong
vocals and songwriting match his ever apparent love for performing.
Watching Brent play brings to mind the title of a book by Charles Bukowski 'Play the Piano
Drunk like a Percusion Instrument until the Fingers Begin to Bleed a Bit'.
